friends in high and low places

So this week has been very emotional in a sense that my friends from across the globe have left to go abroad for holiday break, some moved to places where the word snow is never heard, and others started in the great journey of becoming a full grown up (...after college graduation). The same thoughts that went through my head in May when I walked across that stage came back again: Uncertainty and Excitement.

Uncertain about what lays ahead, will I see these people whom I have formed deep friendships with, will I survive the real world, and the ultimate man i'm going to miss those college get togethers..aka...parties.. :-).

Excitement because everything that you have worked for is about to be realized, you are entering a whole new realm of success and new life.

I guess we will just have to wait and see what the life brings us and then do our best to keep in touch with friends even if they are 7 hours ahead of my time zone.

Self Healing

As an individual trying to find clearity and happiness in life, I have turned to the topic of Astrology, which as you know provides information to help understand life and our purpose using the universe and how it influences us. One specific form of Astrology of interest is Vedic Astrology. Orinigated many years ago in East India by the same brilliant minds that introduced yoga. Vedic Astrology is a healing system based on the planets and nature. It uses what are called the Vedas books of Acient India that are about 4,000 years old and cosidered the oldest sacred books of Hinduism.

I went ahead a did a Vedic Astrology reading and to my surprise it says that my Moon Nakshatra, or Star, is Sravana, meaning hearing. Vedic Astrology uses 27 distant stars because stars are important inspirational forces outside our solar systems and Indian astrologers used them to get deeper meanings, specially when it comes to relationship astrology.

The cool thing about this reading is that it tells you the meaing of your star, the mythology behind it, your strengths and your issues that surround you. My Sravana star is ruled by the Moon, meaning that my life is connected through my emotions. I have a willingness to help and nature others. Each star also has a God and for my star is Lord Vishnu, which is explained in the mythology section. I am not sure if I agree with the mythology, it says that Vishnu maintains the universe and that I to see into the deeper meaning. I don't consider myself that wise to know but those who know me could tell me if I do.

Compated to Western Astrology, Vedic Astrology is considered and practiced as a science in India, used as guide for many areas of life and respected professionally. For those who follow and need some healing and in need for deeper meaning, this can be a good tool. Let me know what your Vedic Astrology reading reveals!!!

p.s. for those who read last post, here is an update on my indoor soccer game. We lost 0-4, but it was our first game, I expect to report better scores!!

how do i stay motivated?

So lately i have been having problems trying to stay motivated at anything. I mean ever since i finished school and moved back home, its just been boring. I just either stay at home, clean, try to find a job, watch tv, go to bed and repeat it again the next day. Now I'm working part time but that just takes a couple of hours a day anyway. I feel left out of what is going on. In school I was always busy either with work, classes, homework, organizations, projects, friends, and just living the college life. But i had responsibility. It was a great experience and I met so many people from all over the world. I made some great friends that I will cherish. I was excited to graduate and sad too. I knew that it was not going to be the same once i left, but I thought you gotta move on to something better. But i just haven't found it.

All my friends and even my sister and brother are away, I feel all left out here in kc, although my boyfriend is here, he is doing his thing. And this job hunt is well just going, more and more people are being laid off because of the economy, leaving me with more competition and less chances of getting something. I don't feel important, I don't feel useful and I am afraid to loose the knowledge that I have gained.

Not only that, I don't have true friends here. The ones i had in high school have changed, or their married, or away, or have a career. I don't go out and I don't talk to people much. I feel excluded. There is the occasional going out to party with acquaintances, but nothing much from there. I agree with you Natasia, I feel alone at times. I have read a couple of books, done some research online, practice some piano and try to stay connected with others online but that is it. Maybe I am asking too much. Don't get me wrong, I am soooo thankful for what i have and the opportunities that have come my way. I know i shouldn't complaint because there are people out there that are worst than me. At least i got food and a place to live. I just want to partake in something, volunteer.

Like the definition says, I want reasons to engage in a certain behavior.

The one thing that has me pump is that I start indoor soccer next week. Im sooooo excited, although, kind of afraid because i haven't done much of a work out in the past several months :-(. But I CAN DO IT. I think this will give me a start, some energy and a need to stay positive. Thats what I plan to do for now, but if you have any other suggestions please let me know.

Man after looking at food all day, i felt like i had been eating all day :-). Im really excited to have them here and to have a good thanksgiving day! My plan was to try a little bit of everything and just enjoy the company.

Hope you enjoyed your day as well!

"Anticrisis Menu"

Yes, there is such a thing. I found this fun story on Univision.com today as I was learning my daily headlines and I thought i would share it with you. This goes specially to my Latin team, Vero and Lina, they are Spanish natives who am sure will be drooling over this story.

In the north of Spain (Asturias), there is a small local resturant call "Sidrería de Gijón " that offers the right combination of food for its clients during times of crisis like the ones we are going through now. This restaurant offers one complete menu once a week for 1 euro, which is about $1.25, which they call their "Anticrisis Menu". Now how many of you would go out to eat everyday for that price here???...i have my hand in the air too ;-).

The menu starts with a seafood soup, the choice between rice with rib meat or salad with anchovy, in addition to a slice of bread, a drink and dessert. The resturant used to serve about 6 complete meals a day, with this offer they now serve about 200 a day. In Spain, a typical meal like this one would cost about 10 times that, about 10 euros or $12 dollars.

And let me tell you, when I was in Spain, a typical meal included about four dishes of food, plus bread, and wine and usually lasts about 2+ hours. Seafood is a main dish is Spain, I had the luxury to try real Paeya and Jamon (ham), you have no idea how much I would love to eat that right now :-).

Time Flies

I'm sitting here at work and I'm bored out of my mind.

"Well do something you may say", but there is really nothing to do.

Right now im working part time at a computer lab that provides any kind of pc training. Interesting right? yes and no. For the students that come and get training, yes, for me who just assist the lab, no. I have prevented my self from falling asleep a couple of times and checked my email account more than i can count with no inbox msgs. But no worries at least i get time to blog and get this think tank rolling!!!

I'm am sitting here thinking how time goes soooo fast, its already November and its Voting Day (which i hope you already went and filled out your ballot or are planning to do so soon). Its been exactly 3 months and 4 days since i officially finished school and i can't believe it. I got a degree in marketing and advertising with an emphasis in business. Ya and I am still looking for my career break to come soon!! I went to Guatemala to visit family, bought my first official car, help mother with her cleaning business, my bf started the fire academy (yes ladies he is a fire fighter!!), started learning how to play the piano, visited twin2 at school, celebrated mom's bday (which happens to be on Halloween), and now its voting day.

I was thinking, since today is such a memorable day, I wonder how many people will take the time to take it all in. I been having a constant struggle to define what my purpose is in life? what is my path? how do i find it? and i find myself frustrated at times. But now I sit taking everything in and thinking what is Obama or McCain thinking about? how do they define their purpose in life? aside from fundraising and accusing each other. After over a year of advertising, speaking at public events, appearing on debates, and shaking the hands of many followers, do they realize today will define their role for the next four years. Everything they said, they promised, now has to be put to work. Its hard to even know now what each stands for anymore, so many influences from 3rd parties have shift their campaign slogans and frankly confuse the heck out of me. You have to trust the basic issues at hand and be educated to go out there and vote. I hope you all have done that. There is nothing worst than voting for something you have no idea what it is about. And I guess it comes down to the same question I ask myself, what is my purpose? what is our purpose?
